Singer of R&B/Soul and Rock
A.k.a. Bob Watkins
In the Spring of 1967, Bob Watkins joined a rock band called The Fourth Estate, as lead vocalist. Bob was in the Navy at the time, stationed at Moffett Field in Mountain View, California. The Fourth Estate changed their name to The Soultons in the Summer of 1967. On October 3, 1968, The Soultons cut "Rain Down Soul / Baby, I Don't Know" on Bay Town Records. The Bay Town recording engineers, Barry Carlos and Oscar Hefner, asked Bob if he would sing vocal on a song they were working on called "Soul On Ice". Bob agreed and cut "Soul On Ice". It was under the name, Bobby Watkins And Fire. The other members of The Soultons were not on the recording of "Soul On Ice". After cutting "Soul On Ice", Bob continued to sing lead vocal with The Soultons until August of 1969, when he got out of the Navy. He went back to the east coast to be with his family. "Soul On Ice / Flight To Cuba" was re released in the U.K. on the Funk45 label in 2004. Bob was not credited as lead vocalist on "Soul On Ice". Both sides of the record listed Fire as the preforming artists.
