Unusual South African band from Brixton, Johannesburg formed in 1997 by Ampie Omo, Chris Chameleon and Leon Retief. The band's sound, self-described as "monkipunk", consisted of bass, drums, brass, keyboards and percussion; notably lacking guitar. After a string of successful albums, awards and performances in- and outside their home country, Ampie and Leon called it quits in 2004. Chris went on to a successful solo career. The band has sporadically re-appeared and recorded since then, mostly as a solo vehicle for Chris.
