American Chicago blues guitarist, singer, and bandleader, known by his stage name of Boston Blackie. (Stage name based on fictional pulp noir hero Boston Blackie.) Began playing guitar by age six. Moved to Chicago in 1962 and joined the band Sweetman and the Sugar Boys, which included 3 of his brothers. Played with: Johnny B. Moore, Lee "Shot" Williams, Little Milton, Magic Sam, Otis Rush, Freddie King, Kansas City Red, Hubert Sumlin, Homesick James, Jimmy Dawkins, Little Walter, and Eddie Shaw, among others. Born: November 6, 1943, Panola, Sumter County, Alabama, USA. Died: July 11, 1993, Chicago, Illinois, USA. (after being shot in Chicago by blues singer James Yancey Jones (Taildragger (2)).
