Brainlego is a collaboration between kRkRkRk recordings founders Peter Wright and J-mz Robinson that arose from ashes of previous band TMA-1 towards the end of 1994. Taking their name from a Einsturzende Neubauten song title, the initial incarnation of the project was as a tongue-in-cheek punk-pop covers outfit. After a cassette release (kRk028) in January 1995, and occasional gigs between 1995 and 1997, Brainlego went into extended hibernation for several years. In 2001, however, Wright and Robinson began working on new material in a more "art-oriented" electro-acoustic mode. With Peter Wright leaving for an extended period overseas, the Brainlego project once again went into stasis in 2003, with a final performance taking place at the Christchurch Media Club on Armagh St, on the 22nd March 2003.
