Rock (Hardcore)
In the mid-90’s, during the crux of what can only be described as an all-time low point in the South Florida music scene, Brethren emerged as a sort of revitalized, contemporary incarnation of seminal Miami Hardcore outfit Mindframe. Venues, especially those which were conducive for Hardcore shows, were sparse as were not only bands which resonated with the kids, but bands in general. Thus, synonymous with poor turnouts was an apparent lack of vigor, conviction, and hope. The formation of Brethren allowed for an inadvertent realization of the longing, if not need, for a culturally relevant band that could serve as an unapologetic, anger-infused soundtrack to the lives of those who had a lot to say in regards to personal as well as social issues, serving as the impetus for a revitalization of the South Florida Hardcore. - Mark Pollack
