From Te Atatu in West Auckland, Neilsen was the original drummer in the legendary La De Das, playing with them from 1964 to 1967 when he left to join The Action. Also played in Music Convention, Cruise Lane and Breeze. In the 21st Century Brett is still a working drummer in Auckland.
