Based in New York as a freelance violist and teacher, Brian Lindgren also composes electronic music. Lindgren grew up in Plattsburgh, the son of James Lindgren, a professor of history at SUNY Plattsburgh, and Mary Ann Weiglhofer, a librarian at Clinton Community College. Lindgren studied viola with Gorevic from fourth grade through high school. He was principal violist with the Vermont Youth Orchestra during his high school years, and he performed as soloist in the Walton Viola Concerto with the Vermont Youth Orchestra. He was also principal violist with the Adirondack Youth Orchestra and served as principal violist in the All-State Conference Orchestra performance. After graduation from high school, Lindgren attended the Eastman School of Music where he studied viola performance with John Graham. While at Eastman, he was introduced to electronic music composition. Lindgren currently lives in Brooklyn, N.Y., and performs in many different chamber ensembles including the Lyric Quartet and the avant-garde group, Sham el Nessim.
