Hip-Hop/Rap and Electronic
A.k.a. Mike Lovell
Brubaker is currently working on his latest obsessions "Return To The Red Room" and "Suspended Sentences", which will be released in Q4 of 2016 and 2017 respectively, featuring all new material. Brubaker has something of a reputation locally as someone who is no stranger to tackling the more ‘difficult’ issues as an MC, and if anything he intends to maintain that reputation, or at the very least upset a whole bunch of people. He has been a member of various bands over the years, including Quantum Deluxe, Binary Brothers and Manic Compression, and has worked and performed with the likes of Ice Minus, Technical Itch, Kosheen, Monk & Canatella, Roni Size, DJ Madds, DJ Kraze, MC Jakes, Dynamite MC, J-Raq, Braintax, Dub From Atlantis, Receiver, Supa-T, Aspects, All Creatures, Beans OBE, Retna, Junior Disprol, Lillydamwhite, and many, many others. He has featured on 3 LP’s (State Of The Art, Quantum Deluxe / Barmageddon, Quantum Deluxe / The Ninth Configuration, Brubaker) and 3 EP’s (D6AD, Quantum Deluxe / Binary Exponents: Vol 1, Binary Brothers / Drop The Bottle, Brubaker), along with quite literally scores of collaborations with the likes of Skelm, Matt Backup, Clari Thomas to name but a few. His diverse style lends itself to many genres of music outside of his native Hip-Hop, able to adapt to any given track at any given time. Brubaker is the 44-year old bastard child of a thousand Hip-Hop MC’s; forthright, outspoken, undefinable and unmanagable. Based in Bristol, he has consistently ignored the advice to quit for nearly twenty five years – and as a result he has managed to impress most of his doubters. He has no interest in changing the face of hip-hop, simply because he doesn’t feel it needs changing; nor does he seek fame, wealth or any of those other things that most artists use as motivation. His view on the music industry and imagery is a little unusual to say the least. Despite working in and around Hip-Hop for over twenty years, he remains a deliberate outcast – choosing substance over style and continues to this day, to shake off the stereotypes of what most people expect of an MC. Described once as “a curious hybrid of Jocky Wilson and Toadfish, with an unnerving ability to rap” and “one of the top 5 rhymers in the UK”, Brubaker does nothing if not surprise those who are willing to take a brief moment to listen. He continues to work tirelessly despite his senior age, and stands as living proof to so-called 3-year ‘veterans’ that they really don’t make them like that anymore, nor are they ever likely to any time soon.
