Bryan Scary

voc, key, *1983
Musician of Rock and Pop
A.k.a. Bryan Treitler

Born in 1983 and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Bryan Treitler was encouraged to begin taking piano lessons at a young age. By early 2000 Bryan moved to New York to attend film school at New York University. While completing his degree Bryan began to get disillusioned by camera folk and began recording elaborate demos of his own power pop tunes. In the three years it took to complete his course, Bryan had managed to amass an album's worth of songs. It was these demos that ultimately won over LA based, indie label Black and Greene records who dutifully signed Scary. This opportunity enabled Scary to clean up his demos and replace his own pre-programmed beats with live drums played by Apollo Sunshine's Jeremy Black. On Halloween 2006, appropriately enough, Bryan Scary and the Shredding Tears was released to the world. To support the record, Scary put together a touring band – ALSO called The Shredding Tears.(A confusing predicament which the songwriter has recently remedied, he’s just Bryan Scary now). Backing Scary’s vocals and keyboards were second keyboardist Mike Acreman, guitarist Graham Norwood, bassist David Ostrem, and drummer Brian Bauer. Scary and his band soon began to draw a large word of mouth following, due to their glam, theatrical stage show. Each song was given its own glittering visual representation, complete with wacky costumes and set pieces all of which was filtered through the darkly comedic mind and maniacal stage persona of Bryan Scary. The band drew comparisons to Queen, ELO, Sparks, and Of Montreal, among other artists unafraid to court the dramatic. After some heavy touring, Scary and the band returned to the studio to begin crafting the next album, the first to feature his touring ensembleIn 2007 the band launched multiple tours nationwide. In September–October 2007, the band went into the studio to record their newest album 'Flight of the Knife'. (See Bryan Scary & The Shredding Tears) The band spent 2009 touring the Mad Valentines EP, before getting back in the studio in order to produce third full-length release. Entitled Daffy's Elixir it is a wild west-themed conceptual album which was funded in part by money pledged from friends and fans through Kickstarter.com. More than $16,000 was raised towards production of the album. Bryan recorded fully orchestrated demos for his band members which were then worked out in rehearsals prior to the sessions. On February 25, 2010 the recording sessions for the album began in Brooklyn, NY with producer Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Phish). Goggin had previously mixed the single "Red Umbrella" for Bryan Scary which was included on the Mad Valentines EP. The completed DAFFY’S ELIXIR is an epic double album featuring cons, quacks, cow-gal robots, spurned lovers, villains and bandits, all set in the Old West. Euro-centric art-pop meets Spaghetti-Westernisms and old-time yarn spinning, a unique stew congealed by Scary’s most ambitious musical arrangements yet. Daffy's Elixir was released April 24, 2012, on Paper Garden Records/Lavaslope
