Jazz (Free Improvisation)
A sound painting for quartet, percussion and recorded tape. The basic tracks were recorded in an abandoned cistern, with Bud Shank playing and conducting a group improvisation by flashlight, featuring Jill Clayton, Dick Oatts, Bobby Shew, Jiggs Whigham, Bill Ramsay. These tapes were edited and played on stage with a different band led by Shank featuring Dave Peck, Chuck Deardorf, Dean Hodges and Gary Gibson. The latter performance, accompanied by the tape, was recorded live on April 12, 1992 at the Fort Worden Theatre in Port Townsend, Washington.
