American jazz musician (June 27, 1885 in Zanesville, Ohio — May 3, 1960 in Roseville, California). Johnson's career before 1917 is little known. He formed the Frisco Jass Band with violinist/dancer Marco Woolf, saxophonist Rudy Wiedoeft, pianist Arnold Johnson and a banjo and a drummer. Johnson left New York for California, and played in a quintet including Henry Busse (trumpet) and Gus Mueller (clarinet). The trio composed "Wang Wang Blues" sometime in the period of 1918-1919. He played briefly in Paul Whiteman's Orchestra from 1918-1920. He performed until roughly 1945.
