CF1 is a mixed choir based in Cardiff. Since its inception as a Youth Association by Eilir Owen Griffiths in 2002, CF1 has developed into one of Wales’ most competitive mixed choirs. Over the years, CF1 has had considerable success in the Urdd Eisteddfod; the National Eisteddfod; Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod; Pontrhydfendigaid Eisteddfod; Cheltenham Choral Festival and North Wales Choral Festival. The choir won the Mixed Choirs Category in the Côr Cymru Competition in 2013 and winning the BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year in 2014 was the icing on top of the cake. The choir enjoys performing on the international stage. The choir has travelled to the United States, Poland, Canada, Italy and Ireland, as well as across England and Wales. In 2016, representatives of the choir went to the state of Mizoram in India to perform at the Kristian Thalai Pâwl Conference – a Christian Youth Association founded in 1954 by the Welsh missionary, Rev. O. W. Owen. CF1 were the first choir from Wales to visit the province and performed to a pavilion of over 20,000 people. In 2017, the choir went for a week to Rhineland, Germany where they paid a musical tribute at the grave of Ellis Humphrey Evans – Hedd Wyn and participated in an afternoon service of worship at Cologne Cathedral.
