The Newports recorded this song in 1962. It became a local hit for us, and helped us land the position of resident band at Glen Echo Amusement Park that summer -- where on weekends we played sets on an outdoor stage near the carousel. Radio ads for Glen Echo that summer also featured a clip from Mess Around. Cal (Linley) Linthicum sang the song, I wrote it, and Dianne (Meenahan) Haney and Pat Brown ("The Filterettes") and I sang chorus. Players on the session included Bill White (bass), Larry Swacker (elec. Guitar), Pepper Archenbeau (drums), Don Shook (tenor sax), Paul Clarke (tenor sax), and me (elec. Guitar). Recorded on one track at Edgewood Recording Studios, Washington, D.C. - Blaine Smith
