A.k.a. Callan Cummings
Solo project from former Captain Turnip guitarist Callan Cummings. Born in 1986, Callan has appeared in numerous live and recording bands around the peel region. In 2004, together with bassist Trent Hiller, formed Saigon Cola, whom played shows around Perth and Adelaide until disbanding in 2006. Although incorporating fairly conventional structures into their funk orientated originals, Cummings started writing more esoteric songs that he would find weren't suitable for Saigon Cola's repertoire, influencing his next band Captain Turnip. Captain Turnip were short lived and played around 30 shows between 2007-2008. After the band broke up, Cummings stated in an interview that "it made more sense for me to record exclusively by myself and at home". This lead to years of inactivity, until in 2013, he found demo tapes that he revisited and started working on again. In October 2014, Cummings released "The Garden Variety Hour", via his own imprint Cortisone Records. Regarded as "anti-genre" and "muzak", the release hopped across styles and added more mystery to his already mercurial body of work.
