John Walker (vocals), Ian Buchanan (bass), and Carl Stokes (drums) formed Cancer back around 1988/1989. Back then, Cancer was a simple Death-Thrash band hevaily influenced by bands such as Slayer but also more commercial groups like Metallica. Their debut, "To the Gory End" was a simplistic and quite banal recording, not really featuring anything new (a look at it's cover should be self-explanatory). What really brought Cancer to fans' attention however, was their second album, "Death Shall Rise". The record featured the infamous James Murphy (guitars), who had previously played in bands such as Disincarnate, Obituary, Konkhra, Testament, Solstice and Death. The third album, "The Sins of Mankind", was less fortunate, as Murphy had decided to leave as it was too hard for him to take part in a UK-based band while living in America. Shortly after the release of "Black Faith" in 1995, Cancer broke up. Cancer was reformed with a new line-up in 2003 and released the EP "Corporation$" in 2004.
