Album AU 1958 on World Record Club label
Classical (Modern)
Catalogue number "CS 1" on sleeve, "CS-1" on red 'globe' labels. Issued, after some delay from the time of its announcement, as the first of a new "Connoisseur Series" in 1958. The popularity of this LP directly led the WRC to create The Record Society as its vehicle for more rarified musical tastes in 1960. The name "Connoisseur Series" was resurrected in 1963, and used for historic older recordings. So a purist could argue that this should be classified as the first release by The Record Society (although the name does not appear anywhere on the sleeve or labels). The label's full title is in fact "World Record Connoisseur Series", and has its own never-to-be-repeated logo. Reissued in October 1963 - by then, no doubt on beige 'strobe' labels.
