Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez (b. 1964) is a Latin-American composer and Professor of Composition at the Eastman School Of Music in Rochester, New York. He studied at Peabody Institute, Yale University, Princeton University, and Tanglewood under Henri Dutilleux, Jacob Druckman, and Martin Bresnick. Some of his recent compositions include Memos (for So Percussion, Kroumata Percussion Ensemble and Nexus (18), Five Memos (commissioned by Fromm Music Foundation for Eighth Blackbird), and Ex Machina for marimba, piano & orchestra (performed by the Binghamton Symphony Orchestra). Before joining Eastman School faculty in July 2003, Sanchez-Gutierrez taught music theory and composition at San Francisco State University (1995–2003). Carlos also served as a guest professor of composition at Yale in 2002.
