Band, *1997 US
Musician of Rock, Folk and World
Led by bassist Beau "Sammy" Sample, Cave Cat Sammy is a showcase for his rockabilly tunes and classic roots rock playing. Formed in 1997 by Sammy and classmates Steve Scott, Paul Ward, and Dustin "Ol Smoky" Hutchinson, the band's youthful attitude and powerful playing won them comparisons to classic artists like the Sparkletones. Their live shows were successful enough to warrant a debut album on Big Bellied Records in 1999, which in turn led to their first of many long U.S. tours. Building their reputation through concerts, they released the follow-up Comin' On Strong in 2001 that was an equal mix of originals and classic covers.
