Classical Lps usually had attractive cover art and the back of the album featured interesting notes on the composers and music. In the 1970s-1980s, Charles Yulish was commissioned by Columbia and RCA records to write a series of liner notes for their new classical music records. Selections from these liner notes are included in this book. In addition to writing traditional notes, Yulish completed one assignment by writing a liner note as an imagined interview with the composer. RCA was delighted with the approach. They asked him to write imagined interviews for virtually all of a new series of records—each composer’s Greatest Hits.” The series was aimed at introducing, and stimulating, increased interest in classical music. The series proved to be very successful and resulted in many repeat interviews; including several “live” interviews with Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland and others. “It’s On The Record” contains a collection of Yulish’s notes on music by composers including: J.S. Bach, Beethoven , Bernstein, Brahms, Chopin, Copland, Debussy, Gliere, Handel, Holst, Kreisler, Liszt, Mahler, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Nielsen, Resphigi, Prokofieff, Schubert, R. Schumann, W. Schuman, Sibelius, J. Strauss, R. Strauss, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi and Wagner.
