US american tenor vocalist b. Dec. 27,1909 in Norfolk, Virginia d. Nov. 7, 1987 in Amsterdam, Netherlands Brother of Peanuts Holland. Started his career as a big band vocalist in the 1930s but continued studying to become a classical singer. In 1949, he moved to Europe (first Stockholm, then Paris) as there were more jobs for african american classical vocalists.
