Charles McDermott is a music writer and educator. He received an undergraduate degree in philosophy from Santa Clara University and a masters degree in music from the University of Oregon. He holds a Ph.D. in music history from the University of California, Berkeley. As a writer he has written extensively on Renaissance keyboard music and the 20th century music teacher Nadia Boulanger .
