From back cover: Somewhere between the broken dreams of the sixties, and the shallow promise of seventies a young, Missouri-born man, joined the army. And when he emerged, a little older, a little wiser, he earned his living in government offices, factories, and eventually on a farm. It is this man, Charlie Cover, who came to Canada 7 years ago and brought with him a special kind of music that has been evolving ever since. Charlie Cover began writing and singing his own songs in a small bar in old Quebec. There he learned to speak and sing in French as well and create a style that's purely Charlie Cover - straight-forward, personal, and reminiscent of gentler times and gentler people. In this first album, Charlie Cover invites his audience to hear and feel the many facets of his music. Whether it's the easy, loping rhythm of "Little White Light", or the more tender touch of his ballad, "Quiet in Your Eyes", Cover spans many moods. "Glory to Be" captures a full-bodied resilience in song and "Sun Come Up" is yet another side of Charlie Cover - the familiar and lilting charm of his country/folk. Cover beguiles his listeners, captivating them with poignant lyrics, soft tunes, and his own honest simplicity. While based in Quebec's Eastern townships, Charlie Cover is now performing across the country on a circuit of clubs and colleges. Joining him is the album's foremost arranger, Jean-Guy Robert, who also contributes the delicate guitar harmonies that are so much a part of the album's entire feel. Des McKeon (bass), and Alain Grovin (drums), add their talents and give the music of Charlie Cover its textural shading. Listening to Charlie Cover is like spending the evening with an old and comfortable friend: there's always something new to discover and just enough to leisurely sit back and remember.
