A.k.a. Preacher Boy
Watkins was born in Iowa City, but lived in Michigan, Kansas, Italy, and Washington before moving to San Francisco. Watkins became later fascinated with the styles of classic country-blues players like Mississippi John Hurt, Son House, Bukka White, Robert Johnson, Blind Willie Johnson, and Mance Lipscomb. Preacher Boy has been both honoring and redefining the country blues tradition through his darkly poetic lyrics, the unmistakeable sound of his National Resophonic slide guitar work, and the raw urgency of his ragged baritone voice."
