R&B/Soul (Soul)
Ben-Lee Music/ MRC Music This appears to be a demo of two songs by Cindy Scott from the production team of Bendinelli & Lovett, who were active in the Philly soul scene during the early to mid-1960s. To the best of my knowledge, the song "It's Not What You Say, But What You Do That Counts" has never been commercially released in any format. I could find no mention of it anywhere online. The second song, "What Are You Doing To Me," remained unissued until the late 1990s when it found its way on to a couple of anthologies, one of which was the Kent compilation, Ben-Lee's Philadelphia Story. The title of the anthologized version was slightly altered to read "What Are You Doin' To Me" and credited to "Cindy Scott and the Cousins." As one would expect, the demo has a less polished sound than the "Cousins" version. Scott sings with more of a biting edge on the demo. Her singing on the anthologized version has a sweeter sound; more in keeping with the female vocal stylings in vogue at the time.
