Singer of World and Country
Claude Coffey (b. Apr. 5, 1921, d. Apr. 2, 1986) was a Christian gospel singer and husband of Arthona Coffey. He sung for more than thirty years with the Coffey Family Gospel Singers, appearing in various churches and auditoriums, including the Grand Ole Opry, as well as radio and TV. In addition to his wife, his cousin Cleo Chambers and daughter Claudia Coffey also performed in the Coffey Family with him. In addition to his musical pursuits, he was also a contractor in the Scott County Tennessee USA area for a number of years, having constructed a number of both public and private facilities, including bands, school buildings, federal projects, and bridges. A U. S. Army veteran of World War II, he received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and many other medals during the European Campaign, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. Claude Coffey was buried in the Sexton Memorial Cemetery in Paint Rock, Tennessee.
