U.N. International piano festival - A benefit concert. Originally contributed to the United Nations by Everest Records for the benefit of the world's refugees, comes this classic 2 LP set. The first album documents an International Piano Festival benefit concert specifically recorded for the United Nations fund in the late 1950's featuring six internationally known pianists including Robert Casadesus, Wilhem Kempff, Claudio Arrau, Wilhelm Backhaus, Alexander Brailowsky and Byron Janis. The second album is a bonus album containing performances culled from the Everest archive featuring The Fine Arts Quartet and The Musical Arts Symphony conducted by Leonard Sorkin; Orchestra of the Sarre conducted by Karl Ristenpart;, The Saltzburg Mozarteum Orchestra conducted by Bernhard Paumgartner; The London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Josef Krips; The Paris Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Rene Leibowitz; The Houston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Leopold Stokowski; and The Vienna Symphony Orchestra conducted by Hans Hagen. All selections newly remastered. This double album comes in a gatefold. There is a a 12 page insert included. The front cover lists the tracks on the first album. The back cover lists the tracks on the second album. Inside there are articles that discuss "United Nations efforts to help the World's Refugees" and "United States Participates in Helping the World's Refugees," and profiles of each of the 6 artists that contributed to the collection.
