1898 - 1956 Clifford "Doc" Gross is considered one of the greatest of the Kentucky fiddlers. He learned his trade by playing at old roadhouses along the Green River. He moved to Texas in 1931 to join his cousins in a band called Hi-Flyers. He floated around a few bands in Texas from 31 to 33. In 1933 he joined The Light Crust Doughboys. By then he was known as "Doctor" Gross. He played lead fiddle on the Doughboy's first records, made in 1933. He was a staple in their band till they disbanded in 1941.
