Musician
British musicologist and educator, also a violinist. He studied History in Cambridge and he doctorated in Musicology in Oxford in 1980, where he taught until 1991. Actually he teaches Applied Musicology at the School of Music from Leeds University. Active as a violinist and specialized on performing Classic and Romantic music with historical criteria, he is known for the book 'Classical and Romantic Performing Practice, 1750-1900' (Oxford University Press, 1999). He is also author of a monography about Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy ('A portrait of Mendelssohn', Yale University Press, 2003), and of a biography of Louis Spohr ('Louis Spohr: A critical biography', Cambridge University Press, 2006).
