Clorofila is the alias for musician / graphic designer Jorge Verdin. Although trained as a graphic designer, Verdin is a self taught musician and producer who started writing electronic music around 1998, facilitated by a Macintosh computer with Rebirth software. The project was started by graphic designers Jorge Verdin and Fritz Torres, when in 1998, they put together “Cha Cha Cha: El Nuevo Sueño de La Gallina”, a CD collection of local Tijuana musicians that was included in a magazine they both designed, edited and published. Through connections made on this project, they became as one of the projects that formed Nortec Collective, the Tijuana based genre breaking ensemble that created the Nortec sound, a fusion of Banda and Música Norteña (genres from the North of México) with Electronic music and production techniques, and contributed "Huatabampo 3am" to the "Nor-Tec Sampler" demo. As part of Nortec Collective, Clorofila contributed "Cantamar '72" to their 2001 "Tijuana Sessions Volume 1" album. Torres would leave the project in 2002, leaving Verdin as sole member. Verdin would write and produce four tracks for "Tijuana Sessions Volume 3”: “Almada", "Funky Tamazula" as well as "Olvidela Compa" and "Narcoteque", written and produced in collaboration with Panoptica. This album would go on to receive 2 Latin Grammy nominations in 2006: One for Best Alternative Album and another for the design team of Verdin and Torres for Best Package Design. After the split of Nortec Collective in 2007, Clorofila recorded a solo debut album "Corridos Urbanos" which was released in 2010. In order to promote the album, Clorofila formed 2 ensembles: the "Big Banda" format, including all members of Tijuana based 20 piece tambora band Banda Agua Caliente plus singer Fernanda Karolys, and also a stripped down horn four piece Los Mezcaleros de la Sierra, comprised by Oaxacan musicians based in Mexico City. In 2014, Clorofila released “Ahorita Vengo” a six track mini album.
