Cobalt was formed in 2002 by Erik Wunder and Phil McSorley of Colorado. Phil previously had a solo project called Grimness Enshroud, when Erik Wunder joined in. They released a limited to 300 copies demo EP called "Hammerfight" on Pestifer Records in 2003, which contained four tracks that were later re-recorded for their debut album War Metal in 2005. Their second full length Eater Of Birds was released on Profound Lore Records in 2007. Phil left the band in 2014 and was replaced by former Lord Mantis vocalist Charlie Fell in 2015, who will be making his first appearance for the band on their 2016 double album "Slow Forever." They rarely perform live.
