A.k.a. Jose Martin Jose Martin (6)
Conejo grew up in the hard streets of Los Angeles. Conejo’s musical journey begins, when hip-hop first arrived to LA back in the 80’s. He began listening to the only real hip-hop station at the time called KDAY and regularly tuned into the mix-master show. He would recite raps from the “L.A. Dream Team” to kids in the Elementary School yard and also began break dancing and popping, as did many other 12 year olds at the time. In the late 1980’s when the west-coast became known for its gangster-rap and began building a name for its self in the Hip-hop scene. That is when Conejo really begins to develop his style, from Battling other rappers at back yard parties to rapping at underground shows. At the age of 14 he then became interested with the production aspects of hip-hop, wanting to create his own beats. He then becomes involved with DJ Motiv8 who becomes an instrumental part in the acquiring of equipment such as a (Roland S550)& (sp 12 sampling drum machine). Then later on when the Infamous LA-Riots occur conejo finds himself in the possession of more equipment, in the quest to improve his studio, picking up on a keyboard that is heard on the early albums, along with turn tables, and a new microphone. DJ Motiv8 becoming a mentor to Conejo, as well as a mentor to the Black-eyed-peas, while Co-producing them both simultaneously in there shared studio. Conejo then releases his debut album thru BMG Records. Conejo’s debut album was “City of Angels” but it wasn’t till his second album “ Fallen Angel” that he began to really build a name for himself in the Chicano-rap industry. Appearing on numerous albums as a Featured artist, and having his own hit songs appear in shows such as “The Shield” amongst others. Unarguably one of the most influential artists in Chicano rap. His uncompromising and often controversial urban storytelling depicts the reality of real life gang-members in Los Angeles (and throughout the rest of the world). His lyrics capture not only the toughness and brutality of Gang life, but also the unity and family as well as the emotional hardships of loss and tragedy. A True Master of his Art! Constantly evolving, and getting stronger with each release undoubtedly his most Impressive LP to date, the hot new album (“The Puppet Master Curse”)
