Band, US
The Convolution Brothers is an American electronic music/performance project of Cort Lippe (cbro#1), Zack Settel (cbro#2), and Miller Puckette (cbro#0) who joined in 2004. Convolution Bros has been presenting their partially improvised live sets since 1993, pairing sophisticated computer music with humorous and absurdist performances. They are collectively known as Gandy Bridge I-XXI – the materials for the piece are reworked extensively from show to show. Artists have developed a series of so-called vocoders: real-time software patches which can project the timbre of one sound onto another. These are used to combine their voices with each other or prerecorded sounds in a variety of ways. The sound transformations are carried out on Macintosh and PC laptops with Max and Pd software environments. For early Gandy Bridge concerts, Lippe and Settel used the original IRCAM Max/FTS version on ISPW workstation. The Convolution Brothers have performed in USA, Japan, Finland, France, Mexico, Greece, Sweden, Switzerland and Spain, and also broadcasted their shows via live internet sponsored by Canal+.
