Musician of Rock
Romanian drummer and percussionist, best known as a member of Romanian rock powerhouse Phoenix (23) in its "golden lineup" years in the 1970s. A graduate of the Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest, Petrescu started his professional career in music as a member of folk-rock group Olympic '64, playing with them throughout the 1960s. He joined Phoenix in 1971, recording two full-length LPs and one EP before being replaced by Ovidiu Lipan in 1975. Petrescu has since continued as a part-time drummer and producer, mainly contributing to jazz and folk records, collaborating with artists such as Marius Popp and Nicu Alifantis, while also working as an architect. He left Romania in 1984 and settled in Paris. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, he has occasionally reunited with Phoenix for live performances. In 2014, he joined former Phoenix bandmates Mircea Baniciu, Josef Kappl and Ovidiu Lipan in a reunion concert in Bucharest under the name Pasărea Rock, a supergroup comprised mainly of former Phoenix and Pasărea Colibri members. His uncle is Romanian painter Costin Petrescu (2)
