Cristiano Porqueddu began studying classical guitar at the age of seven under the tutelage of his father. He attended Masters and specialist courses all over Europe to study the technique and interpretation of XIX and XX century music. He went on to win several awards and international competitions and came to know the guitarist-composer Angelo Gilardino. Having struck up a working relationship with the composer from Vercelli, and under his guidance, he graduated from the Lorenzo Perosi International Academy, Biella (Italy). He has been critically acclaimed as ‘a point of reference for the new generation of guitarists’ and he gives concerts around Europe and the US as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. He sits on international juries for guitar competitions and holds his own specialisation courses, masterclasses and seminars in Europe and in the US. In 2002 he made his first recordings and since 2008 Brilliant Classics has distributed his recordings to over 40 countries. In December 2007 Angelo Gilardino dedicated the Concerto di Oliena to him. In 2010 he won first prize in the Orphée Composition Competition, Ohio, U.S.A. with Il Silenzio del Pendolo for guitar. Cristiano Porqueddu lives in Sardinia where teaches and is responsible for the artistic direction of the “Agustín Barrios International Guitar Competition” as well as the “Associazione Musicare”.
