Band, *2007
Jazz and Rock
Using their quite diverse musical background, Cthulhu Rise members are experimenting in some metallic alloy of progressive rock, jazz, alternative metal and mathcore. Having released several mp3-demo recordings in 2008 and 2009, Cthulhu Rise were always developing their own style, so the band's character and sound changed significantly. By end of 2009 Cthulhu Rise decide to turn to instrumental music. First album by Cthulhu Rise is planned to Autumn of 2010, but for different reasons recording is delayed, so the first LP titled 42 is ready only end of 2011 and released by Musea on June 29th, 2012. At the same time Cthulhu Rise is cooking tracks for a new LP in order to start recording in 2013. The debut LP of the arguably most unusual band in Ukraine is a view on 1970-ties progressive rock from a modern standpoint, logically approached as an alchemic alloy of avant rock melodies reminding Univers Zero, broken guitar riffs like The Dillinger Escape Plan, tense atmosphere of Present, and keyboard dissonances a la R. Fripp. Cthulhu Rise seems to be under influence of vintage art rock, modern intellectual metal, and free jazz – to equal extent. In spite of superficial impression of complex and overcharged music, this is not math but psych. Cthulhu Rise examines concomitance of formidable and ridiculous within the same realm. This is where modal jazz meets mathcore, while drive of metal riffs coexists with free improv motion. The LP titled 42 is a self-ironic investigation into dusty closets of human brain, the place where the quest for Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything starts. In early 2013 Cthulhu Rise change the bass player but do not change their plans and proceed to recording the new LP consisting of 9 tracks planned to be released in 2015.
