A.k.a. Dee Dhanjal
D-Code aka Dee Dhanjal has been following the underground dance music since 1996 and like everyone else, started off with a pair of turntables, a set of busted headphones and an advance ticket to whatever rave was happening on the weekend. During the week he would be doing the rounds at all of the record shops, slowly building a record collection that he likes to describe as, well, a really good collection (surprisingly). Dee's collection was so good he was just itching to share it with the nation. Actually, he was content to share it with however far the pirate radio transmitter reached and started playing sets on London's pirate radio stations including Konflict FM and Rude 88.2 FM under the alias Blade between 1999 and 2001, aswell as having a show on one of the first internet radio stations, gaialive.co.uk. Soon this became stale and Dee hungered for a more personal form of expression. It was all about music production. It was in 2004 when he set up his own studio and slowly started loosing the plot, forever staring into the oblivion of a computer screen, tweaking, programming and attacking his keyboard with the ferocity of that Muppet who played the drums (you know the one, his name was Animal or something...). D-Code is now one of the scene’s most prolific producers. Originally under the alias Nu-Trix, he produces every remix by Shiva Soundsystem, occasionally with his brother Silent Source and Nerm. His studio churns out a startling array of audio wickedness: from Rock and Breaks, to Punk and Electro but Drum & Bass is what he loves. With many styles come many collaborators including Sparfunk of Ram/Terrafunk Records, Chan1, Inside Info and others within Shiva Soundsystem that have added their own unique twists to the plait of sound. However, his sound remains distinctively his own and his DnB work can be heard in almost every big Drum & Bass club in the world as well support from DJs including BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong, Huw Stephens, Colin Murray, Bobby Friction, Nihal, Zane Lowe, London Elektricity, Fabio and Andy C. With Shiva Soundsystem, D-Code has held down residencies at London’s Herbal, Vibe Bar and the legendary Shiva Soundsystem Warehouse parties, toured India, Canada and Europe, mashed up festivals such as Lovebox, Bestival, Glastonbury and any other place that will have him.
