D Bayne (1972, USA) works as a composer and pianist. He graduated from the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music in 1995 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition where he studied with Allen Gimbel and Ken Schaphorst. While in school, Bayne earned a Downbeat Magazine music award for best original composition and the Sammy Nestico award for his composition for the Lawrence University Jazz Ensemble titled Lyel. Bayne studied with Dave Douglas, Louis Sclavis, Dylan van der Schyff and John Abercrombie at the Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music in 2003. He studied with Karlheinz Stockhausen and Richard Toop at the Stockhausen Courses Kürten in Germany in 2006, and in 2007 Bayne participated in a winter residency at the Banff Centre to study with John Halle. Bayne won City of Chicago Community Arts Assistance Program (CAAP) Grants in 2003, 2004 and 2005. He has been operating the Luminescence Records label since 2005. As a member of the duo Postmarks with Boris Hauf (Berlin), Bayne has released albums on both Luminescence records and on MonoType Records (Warsaw). He is a member of the notoriously unclassifiable art-rock band Cheer-Accident, and in 2013, he toured Europe and performed with the band at the Rock In Opposition (RIO) Festival in Carmaux, France.
