Akio Kawahito known by his stage name DJ ID or DJ Intelligent Design is a South Africa based American hip-hop DJ of Dutch and Japanese descent. Born and raised in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, U.S.A. to a Dutch mother and a Japanese father, Akio graduated from Rhodes College in Memphis, relocating to Nagoya, Japan and then to The Hague, Netherlands before moving to Cape Town, South Africa where he founded the successful Kool Out Lounge party series together with Raiko. Based in Johannesburg, ID has held resident status at The Plastic Factory (Nagoya, Japan), Lux (Amsterdam), and The Waiting Room (Cape Town, South Africa). He is also a member of one of South Africa's top crews Ill-Literate Skill while also DJing for solo artists Reason and Miss Nthabi.
