Artist Portrait

DJ Kwistax

DE

Luxembourger DJ and turntablist from Luxembourg City, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and based in Cologne, Federal Republic of Germany. He started DJing in 1997 and until 2015 has been running the local "Btycl" party in Cologne, where he shared turntables with popular DJ’s like Benji B, DJ Rafik or Sinjin Hawk. Because of his love for UK club culture, he became a resident at the popular Big Chill Bar in Bricklane in London from 2011 to 2014. He is the co-founder of the critically acclaimed and forward thinking "Freaks & Geeks“ partynights in Brussels alongside Kid strike DJ Slow. With them, he brought contemporary trendsetters like Martelo, Oneman, Bok Bok or Canblaster to Brussels between 2008 and 2012. With his other crew called "Jurassic Pump", he brought artists like Spoek Mathambo or Le1f to the Belgian capital. DJ Kwistax was a resident at the Regulate parties, and opended the "Ardentes" Festival in Liège along with them and long time fellow DJ Dave Luxe in 2013. Speaking of Liège, he occasionally joined forces with the infamous Belgian "Partyharders" and "Forma.T" crews at their crazy events. He also did a mixtape for "Partyharders" wich is called "Clubsteppaaaz", which featured 20 exclusive edits done by Kwistax himself, which got playlisted by close DJ friends. Thanks to the booking agency "Booking Pop", he played in nearly every club, bar, and disco in Brussels and around from 2010 to 2014. He worked a few times with world traveling and dear friend Lefto, for example at his broadcast show on national radio "Studio Brussels". They also did the opening for El-P and shut down Lefto’s stage at Dour festival together. They even did an instrumental hip-hop mixtape called "Tete-à-tete". Lately he has got props from "Fact magazine" for his "Gigabyte" mix, on which he tried to combine all generations of bootyhouse producers. His juky-grimey adventures on the the "Navigate" mixtape got blogged by famous london web-tv "Just Jam". He put the only official mix-cd out for the "Extrabold" shop in Luxembourg. He was also one of the early dubstep DJ’s in Belgium and released "Popstep" together with long time collaborator and selector TMI. He’s also present on a lot of rap tracks, scratching in the background for example for Kalo de 78 and his brother Gospel MC, or for the rappers from "Autumn" (Noza, Veence Hanao and French), "Suicide Collectif", "Rubicub", or for luxembourgish supergroup "De Läb". In DJ battles, he won the first place in 3 Luxembourgish contests and was a finalist in the 2008 Belgium "DMC" contest. He’s one of the first DJ’s that brought hip-hop culture into life in Luxembourg and also speaks about it in the Luxembourgish musical documentary "Hamilius“.
