A.k.a. Danny Vapid Sewercap
Dan Schafer is a Chicago-based punk rock musician who has led a number of bands, although he is best known for playing bass and guitar and providing backing vocals for Screeching Weasel under the alias Danny Vapid. Upon his is inital entry in Screeching Weasel in 1989, he was called Sewercap, the "Danny Vapid" name not materializing until Screeching Weasel's 1991 reunion. Prior to joining Screeching Weasel, Schafer had sung for hardcore bands like Generation Waste and Igor Skulls. In 1989, after joining Screeching Weasel, he formed Sludgeworth with SW drummer Brian Vermin. The band lasted until early 1993. Schafer quit Screeching Weasel in 1994 but formed the Riverdales with former SW members Ben Weasel and Dan Panic the following year. Screeching Weasel reformed in 1996 but Schafer left the group again in 1997, the same year the Riverdales called it quits. Schafer formed a short-lived band called The Mopes in 1998 with SW guitarist Jughead and drummer Dan Lumley along with former Queers bassist B-Face. The group released 2 records. Schafer later led The Methadones, which he started as a side-project in 1993 and lasted until 2010. In 2008, he revived the Riverdales with Ben Weasel and was part of Ben's resurrected Screeching Weasel from 2009 until 2011. He is currently a member of Noise By Numbers and leads Dan Vapid and the Cheats.
