A.k.a. Даниил Иванович Ювачёв
Даниил Хармс (in English: Daniil Charms, Kharms or Harms), born Daniil Juvačev, 1905-1942, was a Russian avant-garde poet and founder of the artistic collective "OBERIU" in the 1920s. Charms' poems are influenced by Futurism and Dadaism; with his plays like "Elizaveta Bam" he antedated Théâtre de l'Absurde. A non-conformist, Charms was mostly boycotted by Soviet media. He wrote children books for a living - only very few of his "adult" poems ever got printed during his lifetime. Charms was arrested in 1941, and died in 1942, starving in prison during the Siege of Leningrad.
