Band,
Late-night songwriting marathons and a shared love of horror movie atmospherics begat what would become Darkness Brings the Cold, which spun out of a much older, bigger project called The Forest Children based on Chicago’s Southwest side. Started by lyricist/vocalist Dennis Hellman and guitarist Shawn C. Baker, the two friends recorded seven albums before bassist Jeremy Muzika and drummer Dave Tavares (formerly with Chicago scene-staple Tub Ring) joined and the live configuration of Darkness Brings the Cold was born. Dennis Hellman and Shawn C. Baker are the main perpetrators, using a shared love of horror movies, altered states of consciousness and dark and powerful music to fuel a musical endeavor that has lasted almost a decade and more than 3000 miles of distance. Citing influences such as Black Sabbath, The Cure and Tool, they played live for a year before retiring to opposite ends of the country. They still record and release albums to this day via the Internet.
