Dateline
Producer of R&B/Soul
Dateline was a six piece soul-funk group signed to Elektra/Asylum Records. The group was known for the Penquins remake of "Earth Angel," a Doo Wop classic from the mid-50s. The legendary producer and songwriter George Tobin, who worked with other artists such as Smokey Robinson and Kim Carnes, produced the project. Bunny DeBarge (of the award-winning group, DeBarge) is married to Shamar Star, the lead singer of Dateline. An album was never completed and the group vanished in obscurity.
