Singer of Rock
Singer/Songwriter, Music Director: Nova Scotia Canada From CBC Music 2014: "Dave Carmichael is a Canadian singer/songwriter currently based in Montreal, Quebec.Dave is very happy to announce the release of his latest CD, SPIRIT DANCE. Fresh off his stint as musical director for the Festival Antigonish presentation of Joni Mitchell: River (summer 2005), which drew rave reviews, Dave presented 11 songs in 4 different tunings on his latest offering. The music is acoustic-based, gritty, and heart-felt with a message of hope - highlighting his proficiency in writing intelligent lyrics, strong melodies, and innovative arrangements. What comes to the forefront is raw honesty and a sincere delivery. His songs have elements of rock and pop but at their core is roots music. Dave has an obvious respect for traditional roots music and traces of country, blues, folk, and bluegrass can be found throughout his live performance and recorded discs. In the past year, Dave has toured in support of Spirit Dance throughout the Maritimes as well as Quebec and Ontario; developed a tribute to Gene MacLellan and presented it at Festival Antigonish in August 2006 with members of Gene's original band; and starred in a tribute to Buddy Holly at the Stephenville Theatre Festival June-August 2006.Dave Carmichael has been making distinctive music for the past 12 years releasing 2 critically acclaimed albums, PERSPECTIVE and EMERGENCE, manifesting in several East Coast Music Award and Music Industry Association of Nova Scotia Music Award nominations. SPIRIT DANCE was recently nominated for the 2006 Canadian Folk Music Awards for New/Emerging Artist of the year.Dave and Melissa Trottier have recently returned to Terence Bay, NS from their artist-in-residence post in Luzern, Switzerland."
