According to me (Rob Kopp) Fortis Green is by far the best song Dave Davies has ever written! When contributors to The Kinks Preservation Society (not the Dutch organization, but the American mailing list of Neil Ottenstein) decided to make a third CD with Kinks covers, and this time only Dave Davies compositions (The Songs Of Dave Davies; Kinks Preservation Society KPS4 3603) the choice was quickly made: It had to be the Dutch pub version of Fortis Green, translated in Dutch as Je vroege jeugd. We decided to make a 7"-vinyl single as well with the original by Dave Davies on the b-side. It's a private pressing, only 10 copies exist. In 2007 8 copies were pressed: 1 copy for Dave Davies, 5 copies for the 5 board members of the (Dutch) Kinks Preservation Society: Huub Goudzwaard, Ruud Kerstiens, Siem van den Bergh, Dick van Veelen and Rob Kopp; 1 copy for "6th member" Gerrit van den Berg; and 1 copy for the winner of a Kinks-quiz of the DKPS (years later that copy was bought back by me from the German winner and I gave it to my step daughter Ivanka and her girl friend Shirley when they decided to buy a record player). The copy for Dave Davies wasn't handed over to his son Christian Davies before 2012 in pub The Clissold Arms (situated on Fortis Green!). However, Christian forgot to take the single with him, so we thought it was lost (but it was found and returned to us a year later; I gave it to Norwegian Kinks-fan Kai Arne Armann). Therefor we pressed 2 extra copies in 2013 that were handed over to Christian later that year, so after 6 years Dave Davies finally got his copy (see the 10th photo). A 4-sided inlay with the single contains the original song text of Fortis Green (photo 5), the Dutch song text of Je vroege jeugd (photo 6) and the English translation of that Dutch text: Your early youth (photo 7).
