Dave Oxley was a traditional jazz and early rhythm and blues drummer (and sometimes singer) from New Orleans, born May 1, 1910. He had played with Bessie Smith, Ida Cox, Lonnie Johnson, Kid Howard, Joe Robichaux, Dave Bartholomew, and Albert 'Fernandez' Walters. He was largely inactive for many years but returned to performing and recording in the 1960's. Oxley was killed by a hit-and-run driver in New Orleans on July 20, 1974.
