Musician of Folk and World
British guitar player David's diverse early music encounters included Adam Faith, the Beatles and Tchaikovsky. He received piano lessons while at primary school, attaining the lofty heights of Grade 1, but only realised that performance was something he could do when he joined the choir of St. Margaret’s, Westminster at the age of eleven. This is where he learned his music theory, under choirmaster Martin Neary – still his biggest musical influence. A left turn occurred when his voice broke and he took up the guitar, gaining a huge amount of experience playing in recording studios, clubs and pubs with bands and duos that no-one has ever heard of while undertaking an alternative career as a Clinical and Forensic Psychologist. He worked with Richard and Sarah Lacy in the group Eden’s Bridge for a number of years. That project was signed to EMI USA and sold hundreds of thousands of albums. He also contributed to numerous albums engineered and produced by Richard Lacy. He has been developing his skill set over the last ten years to incorporate a range of stringed instruments across a wide variety of musical styles including baroque, classical, bluegrass, pub rock and silly. He plays 6 and 12 string acoustic and electric guitars, fretted and fretless bass guitars, National steel guitar, 5 string banjo, ukulele, duck call, melodeon, mandolin, cittern, mandola and finally mandocello – the instrument from when giant mandolins ruled the earth. He has recorded music for TV and radio over the last five years, mainly in his rural studio.
