Composer of Dance, Rock and Classical
David Loucks (1960-1995) was a brilliant composer and musician. His works ranged from 20th Century orchestral and electronic, to video soundtracks, commercial soundtracks, and rock. David, a virtuoso bass player, began studying piano at age 8, guitar at age 11, and bass at age 13. He began composing before he was a teenager. He studied with Don Ray, Jerry Goldsmith, Gerald Fried, Clarke Spangler, Jerry Immel, Kevin Waters, Ed Allenbach, and Arthur Barnes. David worked as musician and choir director extensively throughout the Pacific Northwest area for many years. He played bass, keyboards, guitar and vocals professionally in numerous bands, ensembles, choirs, and orchestras. Some notable examples include: Bassist/vocalist for BREAKWATER during the mid 1970's; Bassist/keyboardist/vocalist for TRANSACTION during the late 1970's and early 1980's; Bassist for OWL during the early 1980's; Bassist/vocalist for the well-known popular Pacific-Northwest band "RACER" during the 1980's; Bassist/keyboardist/vocalist for THE LARCH during the mid 1980's; Keyboardist with HOUSE OF GAMES during the late 1980's; Bassist/keyboardist/vocalist with "TIN EAR" in the 1990's. David was well-known for his off-beat sense of humour, quick thinking, funny pranks, easy-going manner, mathematics skills, bass playing and reading skills, versatility, and most especially his genius in instrumental and vocal compositions, arrangements, and orchestrations. He received his music degree from Seattle University in 1984, and graduated from the film scoring program at UCLA in 1987. He was married in 1987. In 1987, David started his own recording and production company, Alternative Productions, in Seattle, where he worked as composer, arranger, producer, engineer, for commercials, soundtracks, and CD/Album production.
