Musician / Conductor of Brass
Australian cornetist and conductor. Moved to England in 1982. Studied cornet and trumpet at Avondale College and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and has won many awards as a cornet soloist in both Australia and the UK. King was musical director of Swinton Concert Brass from Manchester from 1983 to 1989, until accepting the appointment as professional conductor of The Black Dyke Mills Band. He was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Norwegian brass band Manger Musikklag in 1990, and directed them to the first ever hat-trick of Norwegian National Championship wins in 1994 to 1997, and then a fourth win in 1998. In 1994 he was appointed Principal Conductor of Yorkshire Building Society Band.
