Bass Player David MacKay hails from Marin County , California . A child of the 50's and 60's, he divested himself into the diversity of the Bay Area music scene, educating himself as he sat at the feet of the master musicians who played the Fillmore, the Avalon, the Jazz Workshop, and the Both/And Club. Through these musicians he discovered the joy of musical exploration; and in 1965 he settled on the bass as his means of travel. As part of the emerging Bay Area scene of the 70's, he was a founding member of the popular band the "Tasmanian Devils", and recorded and toured with Michael Nesmith, playing bass on Michael's Grammy-winning video "Elephant Parts". During these years he also worked as a studio musician in the Bay Area, and concurrently moved to Los Angeles where he worked with producers Al Perkins, Greg Nelson, and Chad Stewart. In 1980, after returning to the Bay Area, he joined the "Heart of Gold Band" where he met his wife Donna. In 1994, the MacKay's moved to the Muscle Shoals area where David founded Windblown Sound Studio. There he has worked not only as a bassist, but an engineer and producer as well. In the 90's he was a member of the "Donna Jean Band" and most recently the reformed "Heart of Gold Band". In 2003 he authored the book "Music in the Wind".
